Service Description

Research suggests that the process of forming letters while handwriting activates neural pathways that are associated with strong reading skills. This course is designed for educators who are looking to help their students develop better handwriting skills. The course provides an overview of the fundamentals of handwriting, proper posture and grip, spacing and sizing. It also includes tips and techniques for teaching students the correct way to form letters and words. In addition, it provides ideas on how to make handwriting fun and engaging for students. At the end of the course, educators will have the skills and knowledge needed to help their students develop the handwriting skills they need for success. Course formats: This course is offered in group courses and online format when available. Acceptance information: This course is accepted for professional development training requirements and annual in-service hours/credits in most states. Learning Outcomes: ● Identify and understand the impact of handwriting on student learning outcomes. ● Assess the specific handwriting needs of students in the classroom. ● Develop strategies and activities to improve handwriting skills. ● Analyze handwriting samples to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses. ● Understand the importance of proper posture and ergonomics when handwriting. ● Incorporate handwriting activities in to the classroom curriculum. ● Demonstrate the ability to provide feedback and support to students to improve handwriting skills. ● Utilize instructional techniques and strategies to promote effective handwriting skills. Topics covered: ● Introduction to the Basics of Handwriting for Educators ● Understanding the Science Behind Handwriting ● Developing Handwriting Skills Through Movement Activities ● Teaching Handwriting With the Multi-sensory Approach ● Practical Strategies for Improving Handwriting Skills Assessment methods: Multiple choice quiz and/or written assignments. Instructional methodology: Interactive Instruction, experiential learning, read written material, view videos, and listen to audio segments.
